Barry Wedgle Ensemble

Barry led his first band at the age of 12. As a true citizen of the world, Barry went deep into the traditional world of Flamenco, touring extensively in Spain, Mexico, Central and South America.  Feeling the need to broaden himself further, he went to New York and dove head first into jazz. He played with Joe Levano, John Hicks, Kenny Werner, Eddie Daniels, and Bill Drews.

He returned to Colorado in 1978 to record his first album, "Kake" on which he was accompanied by Paul McCandless, Collin Walcott, Jay Clayton and Jerry Granelli. After a stint working and recording with Rare Silk, he returned to New York City and shortly thereafter moved to Paris. Since he basically knew no one in France, he introduced himself to expatriate virtuoso Steve Lacy. He ended up touring with Steve around Europe and recording with him on Lacy's "Futurities 1&2".  Steve Lacy said: "Barry is the first truly poly-free guitar player; the most interesting of the decade....". Barry also toured with Sam Rivers, Ted Curson and the Chastang Sylvester Sextett to mention a few.

Then, on to the Far East. Traveling and playing as much as possible, he quickly gained stature, recording three cds; "Virgo" with Shigeo Sugiyama, "Boro" with the Rolling Club Band, and Charito's "This Girl", as well as composing music for film.  In Hollywood he hooked up with his old friend, Kim Stone. They recorded a project together which Tokuma Japan released as "Love Can See" and Capri released as " The Antidote", worldwide.  Back in Paris in 1993, he recorded "San Souci", featuring Steve Lacy, Brise Wassey and George Coleman. In 1994,as a duo, Barry and Steve recorded the astoundingly beautiful music entitled " The Rendezvous".

Barry has worked with an amazing array of people all over the globe including Harry Belafonte, Robbie Krieger, Allen Ginsberg, Taj MahaL Archie Shepp, Mike Ellis, John Kaizan Neptune, and Sam Rivers, to name a small sampling.
